Dashing and carefree, a Smooth Fox Terrier took Westminster's Best in Show three times in a row (1907-1909). Their white fur is meant to contrast against the foxes they were bred to hunt. Today, Smooth Fox Terriers also work in search and rescue, disability assistance, and narcotics detection.
These are clever and independent-minded dogs who love to spend time with their chosen people. Born for adventure, this breed packs a lot of terrier energy into their relatively small frame. Smooth Fox Terriers are also distinctive-looking: that V-shaped noggin will make folks look twice as the two of you ease on down the road.
Originally from England, this medium-sized and medium-energy breed can grow to between 15-19 pounds and lives an average of 12-15 years. The breed is recognized by the American Kennel Club and classified as a member of the Terrier group.

BEHAVIOR & TRAINING
WHAT IS A SMOOTH FOX TERRIER'S PERSONALITY LIKE?
Family-oriented, friendly, and funny, the Smooth Fox Terriers are very playful and affectionate. Sturdy and smallish, they're cheerful, energetic playmates for your little ones with proper supervision. They might be a bit much for toddlers, however. They usually get along well with dogs who are “ruffly” their size or larger; they'll likely chase cats or smaller dogs.
WHAT IS SMOOTH FOX TERRIER BEHAVIOR LIKE?
Smooth Fox Terriers are a sturdy and strong breed who move with a hunter's unfailing grace. Active, eager, and alert, this dog is all terrier. Can she be barking? Digging? Exploring? Chasing next door's cat? Then she's doing it. Try to discourage nuisance barking; keep an eye on her in the backyard unless you're an aficionado of the canine landscaping arts. She's also happy to hit the hiking trails with you.
HOW EASY IS IT TO TRAIN A SMOOTH FOX TERRIER?
Though independent-minded, this breed responds well to training. Start early and be patient and consistent with this pup. Their prey drive is real, so these dogs aren't great candidates for off-leash play outside a well-fenced area.
Smooth Fox Terriers often excel at obedience and agility events.
