BEHAVIOR & TRAINING

WHAT IS A STANDARD MANCHESTER TERRIER'S PERSONALITY LIKE?

Manchester Terriers are loyal and devoted to their chosen people, and they're not afraid to show it. They don't much see the point of strangers, though. They generally make calm and polite housedogs.

WHAT IS STANDARD MANCHESTER TERRIER BEHAVIOR LIKE?

Observant and spirited, Manchester Terriers are actually a bit catlike. They keep themselves very tidy, are a bit aloof with most people, have an independent bearing, and maintain a dignified air.

When they're not snuggling their favorite folks, Manchester Terriers are dogs on the go. They're active and alert, adventurous and playful. Some are prone to digging, so keep an eye on your Manchester Terrier while she's outside unless you want your backyard re-landscaped.

HOW EASY IS IT TO TRAIN A STANDARD MANCHESTER TERRIER?

Manchester Terriers are fairly responsive to training — for terriers, anyway. They're smart, eager learners who take well to working those brains. This breed excels in earthdog trials, agility, obedience — even herding! These dogs do like to test your boundaries, though, so it's important to be patient and consistent with this smarty-paws.

CARE & HEALTH

HOW MUCH DO STANDARD MANCHESTER TERRIERS SHED AND WHAT ARE THEIR GROOMING NEEDS?

Manchester Terriers have short coats that require only minimal care. They don't shed much, either. Plan to brush your pup weekly and bathe her as needed.

WHAT HEALTH PROBLEMS DO STANDARD MANCHESTER TERRIERS HAVE?

These are pretty healthy dogs with a fairly long lifespan. Some have issues with eye disease, a blood clotting disorder, or thyroid problems.
